The project focuses on expanding and updating LCAs for tracks, turnouts, noise barriers, walls, culverts, platforms, and drainage systems to cover all activities not yet accounted for in the LCM:assistent. Additionally, it involves supporting and preparing LCAs currently under development, such as those for bridges and overhead lines. A key aspect is the development of a comprehensive methodology for inspection and maintenance, ensuring that cross-discipline synergies are identified and incorporated effectively.
Results
The consolidation of all life cycle assessments (LCAs) into a unified data format is based on a comprehensive catalog of environmental impacts. This LCA list includes the calculations for all LCAs as well as a „master catalog“ containing the input data for emission factors. The aim is to ensure that updates to emission factors (e.g., newer data from companies through the publication of Environmental Product Declarations) can seamlessly be updated within the corresponding LCAs. This approach integrates all LCAs into a standardized and interconnected format.
